Fitness Ideas

Aims: Muscular Endurance, Cardiovascular Endurance.

Week 12 x 20 min living room circuit or intensive fitness DVD
2 x run or jog/walk for 30 minutes
1 x 20 minutes of core activities, sit ups, back strengthening
Week 22 x 20 min living room circuit or intensive fitness DVD
2 x run or jog/walk for 40 minutes
1 x 20 minutes of core activities, sit ups, back strengthening

Jog/Walk = more jogging than walking. Suggestion 1 – 2 min jogging, 30 seconds walking.

Living Room Circuit. 30 second activity, 10 second rest. Repeat until 20 mins done:

Navigating Tips

1. Keep the map out at all times and ORIENTATE it; i.e. make it face the way you are walking.

2. Check it frequently and navigate in two pairs; i.e. 2 couples each with a compass and map who talk to each other; Others can be reading the route cards and checking details e.g. road/path/woods…

3. Use markers to check you are where you think you are (roads, field boundaries, pylons, path junctions)

4. Use the scale on the map, each blue square is 1kmx1km. At a speed of 3km/h it should take about 20 mins to do 1km; 10mins for ½ km ; 5mins for ¼ km.

5. Make sure the bearing matches the path you are going to take.

6. If you think it’s the wrong path go back before you go too far and check you are in the right place.

7. Make sure your bearing is the right way round.
