Spotlight on: Racelogic

Partnership Objective:

To give back to the school and highlight career opportunities at Racelogic

Background:

Julian Thomas, Founder of Racelogic – Buckingham-based experts in positioning, data logging and video – has been supporting the school over the last decade, after the school approached him to outline its vision for the future. Julian, who left the school after A Levels in 1986, found himself immediately in tune with the objectives of the 600 Campaign and in 2012 pledged £100,000 towards the Discovery Centre, to fund an Innovation Lab. In 2018, Julian pledged a second gift of £100,000 to fund a Sports Lab within the Sports Campus. Julian is motivated by two simple objectives: firstly, to give back to the school which helped to inspire his early love of physics and electronics and secondly, to raise the profile of Racelogic as a locally-based leading hi-tech company with fantastic career opportunities available.

Activities:

Racelogic has been involved in a wide range of initiatives at the school, including:

  • Sponsors of the Innovation Lab in the Discovery Centre and Sports Lab in the Sports Campus
  • Supplier of equipment to the labs, e.g. 3D printer
  • Sponsors of the student space balloon project, to send a lego man into space
  • Visiting the Innovation Club to help students prepare for competitions
  • Sponsors of the annual Physics prize
  • Offers of student work experience placements
  • Meetings with students to give careers advice
  • Delivering a community lecture on sport and measuring performance
  • Speaking at business events to inspire others to support the school

“My business is all about measuring and improving performance” said Julian. “I spent some time looking at the links between physical activity and human performance, and was staggered by the volume of evidence out there to show that even a small amount of exercise can positively impact on cognitive ability. That interests me both as an entrepreneur and as a racing driver, and has convinced me that we must do everything we can to encourage young people to be more active in order to reach their full potential. The Sports Campus is an innovative way to achieve this and I’m delighted to invest once again in the school’s ambitious plans.”

Julian Thomas, Founder, Racelogic

“We are absolutely thrilled, and so grateful that Julian has stepped forward to support our 600 Campaign  for a second time. The Sports Campus will help us to not only help more people to be more active, but will also help young people understand the importance of balancing their studies with activities they enjoy.  This is so important in supporting their overall wellbeing. Technology will play an important role in the new facilities, and having Julian’s support and expertise will mean we can deliver some really exciting initiatives -not only for our own students, but also for the local community.”
