Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to our school website and hope it gives you a good flavour of life in the Latin.

The Royal Latin School is a coeducational state grammar school of over 1,300 students.  As well as respecting our long history (stretching back to 1423), we place a real importance on nurturing the values and virtues which will support our students in the future.  Our approach to what we call LATIN Learning is based on our overarching aim to develop happy students with:

  • The INTEGRITY to LEAD
  • The RESILIENCE to ASPIRE
  • The RESPECT for TEAMWORK
  • The COURAGE to INNOVATE
  • The COMPASSION to NURTURE

Of all of these words, ‘happy’ is the most important.  We know that our students are fulfilled by the challenge and inspiration provided by our academic curriculum; but we also strive to provide a range of extracurricular opportunities, backed up by a strong system of support, to ensure every individual student is cared for and finds activities which they enjoy.

In practice this means that at A-level we have over 23 subjects to choose from, whilst at GCSE and KS3 students benefit from a similar breadth of offer. We are also able to broaden the curriculum through our programme of Electives which allow students to extend their learning beyond the formal curriculum. To this end, we provide a huge number of trips and visits across all department areas.

The Royal Latin School has high standards. Our motto is ‘High Expectations For All’ and we are very pleased to see the progress which our students make over and above expectations each year. Our outstanding results place us amongst the top performing state schools in the country. Crucial to this success is the expertise and enthusiasm of staff, all of whom are specialists in their own subject areas.

We celebrated our 600th anniversary in 2023 and our 600 Campaign has already developed the school’s facilities in order to give our students the resources they need. If you would like to see the progress we are making for yourself, please explore this website further and make an appointment to visit us.
